DJ SCREENDOOR WRAPPED

2024 was a rollercoaster but I had some of the most fulfilling DJ gigs of my musical journey. Each epic moment peaked into another.

I. PROCESS

The year started by organizing my first shows in years at a cool new community spot in Portland - Process. Process is run by long time scene gurus who voltron-ed this spot into existence over YEARS of hard work. Seeing this club come to fruition has been amazing and I am so excited and honored to help support the club and the scene through organizing, djing and attending events here. In all honesty, seeing this spot come to life, and the team, community and scene behind it join together has been the true highlight of my year in music.

II. FESTIVAL RUN

Three amazing festival experiences this summer that made my heart full. Forest Friends cemented new friendships made since last summer's edition. I also played a b2b morning closing set with Andrew Paris who is my DJ twin. Despite technical difficulties with the vinyl setup, we managed to cruise through the morning with a near 8 hour session before we were kindly told to wrap things up. It was very much a standoff to see who would want to end first. It was a very fun set and we had friends literally bouncing off the walls and couches straight into mid-day. It was a set full of deep house, anthems and rominimal mind melters.

A month later I made my third return visit to the MPLS techno event of the year, The Great Beyond. Originally from the midwest, every time I return it is like going home to my chosen family. So many laughs and great times. I had a great 2 am timeslot and chose to go faaaar out there with an AFX-Acid Jungle set that I had been visionboarding since the 2010s. Glad to finally make this mix set a reality. Beyond my set, the scene/community in Midwest is so strong and the festival is truly a very organic amazing experience rammed with next level soundsystems and impeccable programming / DJs. The festival was featured on RA, and my faded Sunday morning mugshot during Wata Igarashi's set made the RA front page for a week lol.

Less than a week later, I was at the Portland area Canyon Vibration festival. I was blessed with another closing slot for the river stage. I was given this opportunity based on a closing set I did last summer for Forest Friends. I prepped 2 hours of downtempo 100 bpm tracks to start my set at 4am to not compete with DJ Voices set on the main stage. Once Voices wrapped at 6 am, I notched things up with an LCD Soundsystem classic and proceeded to DJ until 10 am, another 6 hour marathon set. As it was the end of my summer festival season for me personally, I brought nothing but classics, anthems and tearjerkers. I received so many DMs post-fest about having a good cry during the set. I personally cried 2-3 times at the surreal experience during some emotionally resonant personal anthems.

III. MADRAGUDA

Due to the joy of my Canyon Vibration set, I was asked to do an open to close set for a new night in Portland. As stars aligned and the community coalesced, after an initial booking snafu, the event ended up at Process, which was the most perfect fit for 2024's trajectory. Doing an open to close set at a full scale club with an amazing soundsystem is the dream of any DJ and one that I have always had. It was an out-of-body experience and I was so delighted to see the club fill up early and stay rammed all night long. Everyone was so supportive throughout the set with hollering and catcalls the whole way through. My heart was full.

IV. ++++ MORE

Those were the three big highlights, but I had even more great things happen. My premiere showing at the Believe You Me event series, my first solo gig for the Osmosis crew, a radio show mix for the PDX legends Zam Zam Sounds premiered on SWU . FM / RINSE . FM !!! Several collaborative events with the Kick It Over and Dusted crews, a podcast invite for the midwest Kajunga Records, my continued winebar residency.... I even ended up turning down a few other great opportunities but my schedule was too packed and full as it was...
